Douglas, Wyoming
Douglas, Wyoming, "Jackalope capital of the world", has gained fame as home to the elusive "Jackalope", a legendary creature resembling a large jackrabbit with antlers.

Nestled along the North Platte River, the Douglas population of approximately 5,000 has easy, in-town access to fishing, canoeing and rafting. Due to Douglas' location, residents can enjoy nearby abundant summer and winter sports, including downhill and cross-country snow skiing, snow mobiling, water skiing, boating, camping, hiking, rock climbing, fishing and hunting. Public lands within driving distance include national forests, state and national parks, wilderness areas, big game refuges, and national recreation areas.


Douglas is linked to major cities by I-25 and is served by Converse County Airport. Douglas is located 130 miles north of Cheyenne, Wyoming's Capital and 50 miles east of Casper,Wyoming. In less than 3.5 hours you can visit the Black Hills of South Dakota or enjoy the City of Denver, Colorado which is a 3.5 hour drive to the south.

The needs of our community are well-served with a 25-bed hospital, approximately 20 restaurants, 4 clothing stores, 2 grocery stores, 7 gas stations, 3 convenience stores, a public library, an 18-hole golf course, 20 hotel/motels, a campground and a variety of specialty shops. Douglas has approximately 15 places of worship representing a variety of denominations.


Local Education
Douglas is home to a two-year community college, Eastern Wyoming College, and hosts various outreach classes through Casper College and the University of Wyoming. Our public school system consists of four schools: Douglas Primary School, Douglas Intermediate School, Douglas Middle School, and Douglas High School. Hathaway Scholarships are here! The state of Wyoming has established a generous scholarship program in the name of former Wyoming Governor Stan Hathaway that rewards eligible Wyoming students with scholarship money to attend the University of Wyoming or a Wyoming community college. The program provides merit- and need-based awards to eligible students.
