Local Businesses Show Support of Frontline Workers at MHCC with Free BBQ

National Hospital Week, held the second week of May, is usually a big celebration recognizing all of the healthcare workers in all departments for their hard work. This year looked a little different due to COVID-19, but thanks to some very generous Douglas businesses Memorial Hospital employees were treated to a special lunch as a gesture of appreciation.

Mike Briggs of Converse County Auto saw an opportunity to give back to the frontline workers with the help of Wyoming BBQ Relief and didn’t waste any time getting others onboard. In a matter of two weeks, Converse County Auto, Douglas Tire and NAPA Auto Parts had pooled their resources together to fund a free BBQ lunch to all Memorial Hospital employees. “I reached out to some local businesses like NAPA to help out with the costs and everyone thought I was a great idea. It’s a way for local businesses to support our local frontline staff,” said Briggs.

The Wyoming BBQ Relief team consisting of Brett and Tammy Osborne from Smokin’ Hot Butts BBQ and Dave and Wendy Elmer from Swine and Stein BBQ came into the hospital parking lot on Wednesday night with their motorhome and smoker trailer, ready to cook all night long. The BBQ Relief team planned food for 150-170 hospital employees, serving them from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.

The meal included smoked shredded pork on a bun, smoked chicken quarters, homemade potato salad, smoked beans, homemade pineapple coleslaw, chips, jalapenos, pickled onions, pickled okra, pickles and a brownie. The food was delicious and the hospital employees were all very grateful for the support from these community businesses.

“We saw this being done in Casper and thought what a great way to honor and support our health care workers in town,” said Briggs. Memorial Hospital employees definitely felt the support from the businesses and community with the free BBQ!
