Nestled along the North Platte River, the Douglas population of approximately 5,000 has easy access to fishing, canoeing and rafting. Due to Douglas' location, residents can enjoy nearby abundant summer and winter sports, including downhill and cross-country snow skiing, snowmobiling, water skiing, boating, camping, hiking, rock climbing, fishing and hunting. Public lands within driving distance include national forests, state and national parks, wilderness areas, big game refuges, and national recreation areas.

Douglas is linked to major cities by Interstate 25 and is served by Converse County Airport. Douglas is located 130 miles north of Cheyenne, Wyoming's Capital, and 50 miles east of Casper. In less than 3 1/2 hours you can visit the Black Hills of South Dakota or enjoy the city of Denver, Colorado.

Douglas has approximately 15 places of worship representing a variety of denominations.

Our schools

Douglas is home to Eastern Wyoming College and hosts various outreach classes through Casper College and the University of Wyoming. Our public school system consists of 4 schools: Douglas Primary School, Douglas Intermediate School, Douglas Middle School and Douglas High School.

The state of Wyoming has established a generous scholarship program in the name of former Wyoming Governor Stan Hathaway that rewards eligible Wyoming students with scholarship money to attend the University of Wyoming or a Wyoming community college. The program provides merit- and need-based awards to eligible students.
