Biography
Dr. Mickelson was born in Lovell, WY, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of Wyoming and his MD degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, NE. After completing his residency at the University of Wyoming Family Practice Residency Program in Casper, he opened his private practice, Family Medicine of Casper, in 1997. He has been Board certified by the American Academy of Family Practice since that time.
His focus, however, was on developing a large family practice clinic to serve the people of Casper and to allow them to have options in their choice of healthcare. Joe was instrumental in establishing Western Medical Associates, P.C. in 2006; now a Memorial Hospital of Converse County clinic. He is also a member of the Wyoming Medical Society. Dr. Mickelson says, "It's been a privilege to provide healthcare in Casper for the past 23 years and I am looking forward to continuing it in the future."
He enjoys all aspects of family practice. His second interest is sports medicine. He has been the team physician for several teams. Presently, he is on the medical staff for Casper Bobcats Ice Hockey team and, in conjunction with Casper Orthopedics Association, he is involved with the Casper College sports program. Joe likes to play softball and basketball however his favorite sport is fly fishing which he, his wife, and family enjoy as often as possible.
